A Quote and some Pictures

Everything that is new or uncommon raises a pleasure in the imagination, because it fills the soul with an agreeable surprise, gratifies its curiosity, and gives it an idea of which it was not before possessed."
Joseph Addison

I found this on an Etsy sellers page. Perfect for how I feel.  Love the unusual.

Pictures from yesterdays Sew Day with Lucinda.  We had such a nice time.  Greg came home around noon and we all headed to St.Pauls and had lunch at Huddle House.  Sigh.  I just adore days like this.

above:  Lucinda tossed a blue bit from her project and when it landed on my Brights she said "Ooops, I got my peanut butter in your chocolate"!  Too funny.
And then Greg,   silly man, Greg came home and got us all tickled at his antics.  That head tryin' to wear my hat!

Quilt Tops

Just a post of some quilt tops I've made that need to be finished....how I resist that word (finished)  Why don't I "finish"?

above:  This pattern is by Erla Gundren..very simple (in a good way, mind you)
above:  This is a D9P (Disappearing 9 Patch)  Wanted to highlight as many animal prints as I could.  Everywhere I went, if I saw an animal print I had to buy at least 6 inches to make a block on this.
above:  Greg's Elephant Quilt.  It has been basted and has some quilting done since this picture was taken.
above:  This is "Buster"'s quilt.  My brother's second child.  "Buster", not his real name....a name my bro jokingly called him...too bad it stuck! I had started quilting it but got some puckers and put it aside...the perfection thingie again..

Pictures

Just want to show you who I am and who my family is.  There are 4 of us.  Me- Mitzi  Him- Greg and Them- The Girls: Gizmo and Zippie.

We also have 8 7 chickens.  Meredith died earlier this summer..from heat, we think.  The old bitty's names are:  Glenda, K-Ho, Meredith, Hope, Roxie, Queenie, Bob and one still un-named.  I will save the bittys for another day.

Greg and I love to cook.  You will see lots of food on here in the future.  I am really trying to go from now forward.  Trying not to do the past.  Of course I will slip up from time to time and there are my favorite pictures that MUST be posted.

We also both sew.  Me--quilts and curtians...stuff for the house.  Him-- placemats, coasters, laptop bags, hats (oh my word...HATS!) tissue holders.  He also does bead work, macrame, wood stuff..builds anything I dream up.

Oh,  and he made my wedding dress.  Yep.  And that is another story too.  Here is a corner of the dress:

What a Wonderful Comment

This comment was for Hannah @ http://www.heartbreakhomestead.blogspot.com/  left by Susan  @ http://www.susansavory.wordpress.com/   How true.

Amish quilters have a practice of intentionally including a "mistake" so that God won't be offended - as his work is the only truly 'perfect' work. The Japanese culture of Wabi-Sabi values the imperfections in things that occur with use, and love. When something ages it gathers patina - cracks in a ceramic bowl, dents and scratches on a wooden table top, holes and their corresponding patches in cloth of all kinds speak to the reverence and love with which an object is used and tended to and bring life and personality to that object as it becomes a more deeply cherished part of the household to which it belongs. I think this quilt simply has an Amish Wabi-Sabi energy from the git-go...it is well loved in its imperfection and I for one would rather have a simple "homely" quilt made with love than a sterile show piece. This quilt is most likely the one that will become an heirloom - a family treasure, passed down with those stories of bed-jumping and trips to take pictures in the tomato fields. Well done, Hannah!

Now, one reason I like this is, I get way too hung up on perfection.  To the point of frustration and abandonment of a project.  Not sure if it's because it isn't "just right" or if it is a control issue.  And don't get me wrong.  None of my projects are perfect.  I guess some mishaps just don't bother me.  Kinda like 4 pairs of shoes under the kitchen table....

Later today: another post with pictures....I hope!

4th Of July

Traditional fare, I suppose.  It was good despite the fact that I have been sick for 2 days.  Buffdaddy did it all while i cruzed the net.  Such a good husband.

The line up is:  Mac- n- Cheese (Rotini pasta and an egg custard base), Deviled eggs (not sweet at all, dill relish used) served on a '70's egg platter, Poppers Au Buff style..these had pepperoini on 'em, Chili beans (home made not canned) and good old hot dogs pan seared in butter til blackend!  Nom, Nom, Nom!
